Legend has it that after helping Le Loi defeat the enemy, Kim Quy (the Golden Tortoise) came back to the sea. When he was arriving Halong, witnessing the criminals of monsters, he stopped to fight them and save local residents. He died from serious wounds after the battle. Nowadays, in the grotto, tourists can find a block of stone which is believed to be petrified body of the Golden Tortoise.
